Chromium supplements may help control blood sugar and insulin levels in diabetics

A new study looking at the effects of chromium picolinate on blood sugar and insulin levels in diabetics has found positive effects.

The study, carried out in China by US Department of Agriculture researchers looked at the effects of the supplement on 180 diabetics. Those taking high doses of chromium picolinate were found to have dramatically lowered blood sugar and insulin levels after four months of treatment. Those taking lower doses also showed improvement.

Further studies are needed to confirm the results but studies suggest that chromium supplements, which are widely available may have a part to play in the treatment of diabetes.
